Training

Basic Training

Basic Training begins with Fast Start training. Fast Start training is available online at National's website. Other required training is also available online, including Youth Protection.

After completing Fast Start and Youth Protection Training, the next step to being a 'Trained' leader is to complete New Leader Essentials. This program is the same for all scouting programs and is only needed once. After that, you are ready for Leader Specific training. The next step for Troop Committee members is the Troop Committee Challenge, afterwhich, they are considered trained. Cub Scout leaders, Boy Scout Scoutmasters and their assistants, and Venture leaders have their own Leader Specific training sessions. Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters are also required to complete Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills before they are considered trained.
